White Noise were a pioneering British experimental electronic group formed in 1968, often associated with the fringes of progressive rock due to their avant-garde approach. Founded by American-born David Vorhaus alongside Delia Derbyshire and Brian Hodgson—both veterans of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop—the band fused early synthesizer technology with tape manipulation, musique concrète, and surreal vocals to create eerie, futuristic soundscapes. Their debut album An Electric Storm is a cult classic, blending psychedelic textures with unsettling narratives and proto-electronic beats. Though later iterations became more of a solo project for Vorhaus, White Noise remained influential in shaping electronic and progressive music’s experimental edge.
