Velvet Revolver was a hard rock supergroup formed in 2002, blending the raw energy of Guns N’ Roses alumni—Slash (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), and Matt Sorum (drums)—with the charismatic vocals of Scott Weiland from Stone Temple Pilots. Their sound fused classic rock swagger with modern alt-rock grit, producing hits like “Slither” and “Fall to Pieces” from their Grammy-winning debut album Contraband (2004). The band’s chemistry was electric but volatile, and after their second album Libertad (2007), tensions led to Weiland’s departure and an indefinite hiatus.
