Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra (TSPO), formed in 1988 by percussionist Asa-Chang, is a legendary Japanese band known for blending ska, jazz, Latin, and rock into a high-energy, genre-defying sound dubbed “Tokyo Ska.” Originally composed of veterans from Tokyo’s underground scene, the group quickly gained attention with their 1989 debut EP and explosive live performances. Over the decades, TSPO evolved from a purely instrumental outfit to one that frequently collaborates with guest vocalists, producing hit singles and albums like Stompin’ On DOWN BEAT ALLEY. With a rotating lineup and a fiercely eclectic style, they’ve performed in over 30 countries and graced major festivals like Glastonbury, Coachella, and Montreux Jazz.
