The Wigan Casino was a legendary nightclub in Lancashire, England, that became the beating heart of the Northern Soul movement from 1973 to 1981. Known for its all-night dance marathons, rare soul records, and euphoric atmosphere, it drew thousands of young people from across the UK who were obsessed with obscure American soul tracks and high-energy dancing. DJ Russ Winstanley helped launch its first all-nighter, and the club’s second room, Mr M’s, kept the vibe going until dawn. The night always ended with the iconic “3 before 8”: Tobi Legend’s Time Will Pass You By, Jimmy Radcliffe’s Long After Tonight Is All Over, and Dean Parrish’s I’m on My Way. Though it closed in 1981, Wigan Casino remains a cultural touchstone—immortalized in documentaries, stage plays, and soul fan mythology as the ultimate Northern Soul sanctuary.
