The Spencer Davis Group was a British rock band formed in Birmingham in 1963, blending beat, R&B, and blue-eyed soul. Led by guitarist Spencer Davis and featuring a young Steve Winwood on vocals and keyboards, they rose to fame with hits like “Keep On Running,” “Somebody Help Me,” “Gimme Some Lovin’,” and “I’m a Man”. Their energetic sound and Winwood’s soulful voice helped define the mid-60s UK rock scene. After the Winwood brothers left in 1967, the band’s momentum slowed, though Davis revived it in later decades for touring. Spencer Davis’s death in 2020 marked the end of the group’s long, influential run.
