The Immortal Lee County Killers were a raw, underground punk blues band from Auburn, Alabama, active between 1999 and 2007, led by guitarist/vocalist Chetley “Cheetah” Weise (formerly of The Quadrajets). Known for their stripped-down, feral sound—often described as “where punk meets the blues”—they rejected polished blues-rock in favor of Delta and Chicago blues traditions, cranked up with garage-punk aggression. Across three incarnations (ILCK I, II, and III), they released albums like The Essential Fucked Up Blues (2000), Love Is a Charm of Powerful Trouble (2003), and These Bones Will Rise to Love You Again (2006), earning cult credibility for their uncompromising style. Drawing influence from Robert Johnson, Skip James, MC5, Bad Brains, and The Gun Club, they embodied a “fucked up blues” ethos that resonated with fans of outsider rock. After disbanding, Weise went on to form Silver Lion’s 20/20, while organist John Wesley Myers launched Black Diamond Heavies, ensuring their legacy lived on in the punk-blues underground.
