The Good Life is a classic British sitcom that aired from 1975 to 1978 on BBC1. Created by John Esmonde and Bob Larbey, the show follows the lives of Tom and Barbara Good, a suburban couple living in Surbiton. On Tom's 40th birthday, he decides to leave his job as a draughtsman for a plastics company and pursue a self-sufficient lifestyle. The couple transforms their home into a smallholding, complete with crops and livestock, much to the amusement and occasional dismay of their snobbish neighbors, Margo and Jerry Leadbetter.
The series starred Richard Briers as Tom, Felicity Kendal as Barbara, Penelope Keith as Margo, and Paul Eddington as Jerry. The dynamic between the Goods' unconventional lifestyle and the Leadbetters' more traditional, upper-middle-class values provided much of the show's humor and charm.
