The Fall was an influential English post-punk band formed in 1976 in Prestwich, Greater Manchester. Known for their abrasive, repetitive sound and caustic lyrics, the band was led by the enigmatic Mark E. Smith, who remained the only constant member throughout their history. The Fall released an impressive 31 studio albums and numerous live recordings, earning a reputation as one of the most prolific bands in British music.
Their music evolved over the years, often reflecting changes in the lineup, which included notable members like Brix Smith, Steve Hanley, and Craig Scanlon. Despite never achieving mainstream success, The Fall maintained a strong cult following and were championed by BBC DJ John Peel, who famously described them as "always different, always the same." The band disbanded in 2018 following Mark E. Smith's death.
