The Electric Flag was an American blues-rock and soul band formed in 1967 in Chicago, Illinois. The group was led by guitarist Mike Bloomfield, keyboardist Barry Goldberg, and drummer Buddy Miles, with other talented members like vocalist Nick Gravenites and bassist Harvey Brooks. Bloomfield, inspired by a mix of blues, soul, R&B, and traditional American music, envisioned the band as a showcase for what he called "American music."

Their debut album, A Long Time Comin', released in 1968, blended rock, jazz, and R&B styles and was well-received. The band also contributed to the soundtrack of the film The Trip, directed by Roger Corman and written by Jack Nicholson. Despite their innovative sound and critical acclaim, the band faced internal conflicts and disbanded in 1969, though they briefly reunited in the 1970s.

The Electric Flag's fusion of genres and their use of a horn section set them apart, leaving a lasting impact on the music scene of their time.
