Tales of Terror was a Sacramento-based hardcore punk band active from 1982 to 1986. Their self-titled album, released in 1984, is considered a cult classic and a precursor to the grunge movement. The band's raw, chaotic energy and unique blend of punk and psychedelic influences made them stand out in the underground music scene.
Their live performances were legendary, and they shared stages with iconic punk acts like Dead Kennedys and The Vandals. Despite their limited discography, their influence was profound—bands like Nirvana and Mudhoney have cited Tales of Terror as a key inspiration. In fact, Mudhoney covered their song "Ozzy" on their Dry as a Bone EP.
Tragically, the band disbanded after the untimely death of guitarist Lyon Wong in 1986. However, their legacy lives on, and their music continues to resonate with fans of hardcore punk and early grunge.
