Sigur Rós are an Icelandic post‑rock group from Reykjavík, known for their glacial atmospheres, Jónsi’s spectral falsetto, and the signature bowed‑guitar sound that helped redefine ambient and art‑rock at the turn of the millennium. Emerging in 1994, they broke internationally with Ágætis byrjun, then expanded their palette across albums that blended orchestral minimalism, dream‑pop drift, and volcanic crescendos. Much of their work is sung in Icelandic or in their own non‑linguistic vocal style, “Vonlenska,” giving the music an otherworldly emotional charge.
