Primus is an American rock band that was formed in El Sobrante, California, in 1984. Known for their quirky, experimental sound, they blend elements of alternative metal, funk metal, and progressive rock. The band is led by bassist and vocalist Les Claypool, whose unique playing style and eccentric lyrics have defined their sound. The current lineup includes Claypool, guitarist Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and drummer John Hoffman.
Primus gained mainstream attention with their 1991 album "Sailing the Seas of Cheese," featuring the hit "Jerry Was a Race Car Driver". They followed up with successful albums like "Pork Soda" (1993) and "Tales from the Punchbowl" (1995), which included their most widely recognized song, "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver". The band also composed the original theme song for the TV show "South Park".
