Mirwood Records was a short-lived but influential Los Angeles-based soul label founded in 1965 by Randy Wood, a former Vee-Jay executive, and closely associated with Mira Records. It became a cornerstone of the Northern Soul movement thanks to its energetic, vibes-heavy productions crafted by Fred Smith and arranged by James Carmichael, often described as evoking “the otherworldly beauty of a Pacific Ocean sunset”. Mirwood’s catalogue featured artists like Jackie Lee (aka Earl Nelson), The Olympics, Bobby Garrett, and The Mirettes, delivering dancefloor classics like “The Duck,” “Baby Do The Philly Dog,” and “Your P-E-R-S-O-N-A-L-I-T-Y”. Though the label folded by 1968, its sleek, uptempo sound remains a cherished part of soul history, especially among UK collectors and club DJs.
