Mighty Mouse is an American animated superhero mouse created by Terrytoons in 1942, originally debuting as “Super Mouse” in the short The Mouse of Tomorrow before being renamed in 1944. Designed as a parody of Superman, he became famous for swooping in to rescue mice from villainous cats, accompanied by his iconic theme song “Here I come to save the day!” Over two decades he starred in 80 theatrical shorts, and his popularity soared with the CBS Saturday morning series Mighty Mouse Playhouse (1955–1967), which cemented him as one of Terrytoons’ most beloved characters. Later revivals included The New Adventures of Mighty Mouse and Heckle & Jeckle (1979–1980) and Ralph Bakshi’s Mighty Mouse: The New Adventures (1987–1988), while the character also appeared in comic books, merchandise, and pop culture references, leaving a lasting legacy as a campy yet iconic superhero parody.
