MDC (Millions of Dead Cops) is a fiercely political American hardcore punk band formed in Austin, Texas in 1979, later relocating to San Francisco and now based in Portland. Known for their blistering speed, radical leftist lyrics, and confrontational style, MDC helped define the early U.S. hardcore scene alongside bands like Dead Kennedys and D.O.A. Their debut album Millions of Dead Cops (1982) is a punk landmark, featuring tracks like “John Wayne Was a Nazi” and “Corporate Death Burger” that skewered racism, capitalism, and police brutality. Led by vocalist Dave Dictor, the band has remained active across decades, constantly reshaping the meaning of “MDC” to reflect their evolving critiques—from “More Dead Cops” to “Millions of Damn Christians.”
