La Düsseldorf was a German krautrock band formed in 1975 by Klaus Dinger (formerly of Neu!), his brother Thomas Dinger, and drummer Hans Lampe, blending hypnotic rhythms, proto‑punk energy, and electronic textures. Emerging from Düsseldorf’s fertile experimental scene, they released three acclaimed albums—La Düsseldorf (1976), Viva (1978), and Individuellos (1980)—which together sold over a million copies. Their soaring, repetitive soundscapes influenced artists like Brian Eno and David Bowie, with Bowie famously calling them “the soundtrack of the eighties.” Despite their success, internal disputes and legal battles with Warner Bros. led to fragmentation, with Klaus Dinger later issuing related works under different names. La Düsseldorf remains celebrated as one of the most innovative bands of the krautrock era, bridging motorik grooves with pop‑leaning grandeur.
