Incapacitants is a Japanese noise music group formed in 1981. Initially a solo project by Toshiji Mikawa, the group later became a duo when Fumio Kosakai joined after its relocation to Tokyo. Their goal is to create "pure" noise, uninfluenced by traditional musical structures or human intention, using feedback, vocals, and various electronics.
Incapacitants is considered one of the most influential acts in the Japanoise scene, alongside artists like Merzbow, Hijokaidan, and C.C.C.C.. Their sound is often described as "hard noise", a term Kosakai uses as a nod to the jazz subgenre hard bop.
Despite their underground status, Incapacitants has performed internationally, including a notable appearance at Music Unlimited Festival '99 in Austria. Their work continues to inspire noise musicians worldwide.
