Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (D.A.F.) was a pioneering German electropunk duo formed in Düsseldorf in 1978, known for their stripped-down electronic sound, provocative lyrics, and militaristic aesthetic. Consisting of Gabi Delgado-López and Robert Görl, D.A.F. helped define the Neue Deutsche Welle movement with albums like Alles ist gut (1981), which featured the controversial dancefloor hit “Der Mussolini.” Their music fused punk aggression with minimalist synths and pounding drum machines, influencing genres like EBM, industrial, and techno. Rejecting rock conventions, they embraced stark performance styles and political ambiguity, making them icons of underground culture.
