"Bedtime for Democracy" is the fourth and final studio album by the American punk rock band Dead Kennedys. Released in November 1986, the album is a hardcore punk record that critiques various aspects of society, including conformity, Reaganomics, the U.S. military, and even the punk movement itself.
The album's title is a play on the 1951 comedy film "Bedtime for Bonzo," starring Ronald Reagan, and reflects the band's disillusionment during a legal battle over controversial artwork from their previous album. Notably, the opening track is a cover of David Allan Coe's "Take This Job and Shove It".
This album marked the end of the Dead Kennedys' original lineup, as they disbanded shortly after its release. It's a powerful statement of their frustration and a fitting conclusion to their influential career.
