Ceefax was the world's first teletext information service, launched by the BBC in 1974. It provided pages of news, sports, weather, and other information that could be accessed by entering a three-digit code on a teletext-capable television. The service ran for 38 years before being discontinued on 23 October 2012, as part of the UK's digital switchover.
Ceefax was a pioneer in digital text-based broadcasting, allowing viewers to access real-time updates without needing an internet connection. It also introduced subtitles that could be turned on or off, a feature that was groundbreaking at the time.
Although Ceefax is no longer available, its legacy lives on in modern services like the BBC Red Button and online news platforms. Some enthusiasts have even recreated Ceefax-style pages online to celebrate its nostalgic appeal.
