Boredoms are a genre-defying Japanese band formed in Osaka in 1986, led by the visionary and eccentric Yamantaka Eye. Emerging from the noise and punk underground, they evolved from chaotic, confrontational sonic assaults into hypnotic, tribal-infused psychedelic jams that blend elements of krautrock, techno, and minimalism. Their landmark album Vision Creation Newsun (1999) marked a shift toward cosmic rhythm and ecstatic repetition, often featuring multiple drummers and ritualistic performances. Boredoms are revered for their boundary-pushing live shows, including the legendary “77 Boadrum” event with 77 drummers on 7/7/07, cementing their status as avant-garde icons who transcend conventional music categories.
