The Arcadia 2001 was a short-lived second-generation home video game console released by Emerson Radio in May 1982, priced at $99, and discontinued just 18 months later after only about 35 games were produced. Compact and portable, it ran on a 12-volt supply and featured Intellivision-style controllers with keypads and removable joystick attachments. Powered by a Signetics 2650 CPU with 1 KB RAM, its graphics offered modest resolution and eight colors, while sound was limited to two simple channels. Despite its technical limitations and lack of licensed titles, the Arcadia 2001 spawned over 30 international clones—including versions by Bandai in Japan—making it a curious artifact of the pre–video game crash era, remembered more for its wide cloning and timing misfortune than for its library or innovation.
